Level 4 - Guarding Skills
The Basic Guarding Skills qualification provides an excellent foundation for work, as it satisfies the minimum training requirements, determined by the Private Security Authority, for the licensing of individuals working with the Static or Retail Security Guarding Sector of the security industry. Following successful completion of the programme, learners may apply for licensing under the Security Guard (static) Licence category. This programme leads to the FETAC Level 4 Certificate, C10266 - Basic Guarding Skills.

Programme Aims
The aim of the Basic Guarding Skills programme is to provide learners with an introductory understanding of practical security duties and procedures for those working in the mainstream and retail security industry. On this FETAC Level 4 Programme, Learners will:
Acquire a theoretical knowledge of security, the industry and its history
Be familiar with the duties and responsibilities of Door Retail Security Office
Be aware of the legal codes which apply
Demonstrate a range of skills required for workplace security procedures and appropriate response to on-site emergencies
Programme Content
The Basic Guarding Skills Programme will cover the following topics:
- An introduction to the Private Security Industry
- Duties and Responsibilities of the Security Officer
- Relevant Legislation
- Risk Awareness
- Practical Retail and Static Security Procedures
- Security and Emergency Systems
- Health and Safety
- Emergency Procedures
- Fire Safety Procedures
- Customer Care and Social Skills
- Communications and Reporting
- Labour Relations and Regulations
Programme Duration
The Basic Guarding Skills programme has been designed to run over 2 days, 8 hours each day.
Programme Certification
On successful completion of the course, delegates will receive a FETAC Level 4, C10266, Basic Guarding Skills.
Entry Requirements
No previous experience is necessary.`
All students attending the course must have with them:
- PPS number.
- Two recent personal passport size photographs. (These photographs have been taken within the last twelve months and must be signed on the back)
- Identification (Drivers Licence, Passport, Social Welfare Services Card)
Assessment
To achieve certification learners will undertake skills demonstrations and assignments and complete a written examination, A True/False question format is used for this examination.
