FETAC Level 6 - Fundamentals of Coaching

Coaching  ProgrammePageThis programme is designed to help individuals, managers and business leaders at all levels who wish to have a fully developed coaching model and platform on which to build their interpersonal skills and personnel competency development. It will create an understanding of the context within which coaching takes place and will provide the skills, knowledge, and tools required to undertake coaching assignments. It is also an excellent foundation for considering further study in coaching, specifically the Life and Business Coaching Association of Ireland coach training programmes.

Programme Aims

Learners who successfully complete this module will:

  • - Understand the nature of coaching as a tool for competencies and career development
  • - Learn how to use a coaching model
  • - Understand the organisational context of coaching
  • - Learn how to set powerful goals for individual development
  • - Understand the non-critical, non-judgemental, and confidential nature of the coaching relationship
  • - Develop the skills of active listening and systemic questioning skills
  • - Understand how NLP can contribute to coaching effectiveness
  • - Develop personal effectiveness as a coach
  • - Manage a coaching programme and evaluate the effectiveness of coaching as a competency development tool.

Programme Content  

The programme is delivered in six units as follows:

  • - Unit 1 - Understanding and Using the Coaching Model
  • - Unit 2 - Questioning and Listening
  • - Unit 3 - Building the Coaching Relationship
  • - Unit 4 - Building Personal Effectiveness as a Coach
  • - Unit 5 - Managing a Coaching Programme

Programme Duration

6 days, every Saturday, 9:30am - 4:30pm.

Programme Certification

On successful completion of the course, learners will receive the FETAC Level 6 Minor Award, B30206, Coaching.

Entry Requirements

To access the programme, learners should possess a FETAC Level 5 Certificate, Leaving Certificate or equivalent qualifications.  If you don't have these formal educational qualifications you may apply to enrol on the programme based on your life and work experience. No previous experience of coaching is necessary.

Assessment

As required by FETAC, to achieve certification learners will undertake a written project and a coaching skills demonstration.

Learner Progression

E30206 - Coaching is a component of BMANX - FETAC Level 6 Advanced Certificate in Management. Learners who successfully complete the programme may use the associated credits towards this award.

Certain Higher Education Institutions reserve a quota of places on specific programmes for applicants who have attained any FETAC Levels 5 or 6 awards. In 2010, a total of 408 such awards were listed on the Central Applications Office website (www.cao.ie).  

Certain programmes of higher education identify specific FETAC Modules as part of their entry requirements, e.g. BMANX - FETAC Level 6 Advanced Certificate in Management is required to apply to Blanchardstown Institute of Technology to study for the Honours Bachelors Degree (Level 8) in Sports Management and Coaching.

Learner Protection

Programmes delivered by Oyster are of less than three months duration. At this time, therefore, Section 43 of the Qualifications Act (1999) does not apply. Regardless of this, in the event of Oyster ceasing to provide a programme for which fees have been paid, or prematurely ending a programme for which fees have been paid, these fees will be refunded to learners.
